Michael Dunaway’s path to professional guiding was unexpected but entirely predictable. Growing up on the lakes, rivers, and beaches of South Carolina, Michael was a natural watersports kid. After graduating Wofford College with degrees in Government and Theater, he worked in Atlanta for a year. At the suggestion of a Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brother, he called Cutthroat Anglers and found himself far from the traffic of Atlanta and in the snows of Silverthorne with less than seven dollars in his pocket, a beat-up Nissan Sentra, (may she rest in peace), and a job that allowed him to fly fish EVERYDAY. After mastering “unsnarling the biggest tangles any fly fisherman could conceive,” he pursued the science of streams and entomology to attempt to become a very qualified guide.
Michael returns to Cutthroat Anglers for the 2013 season after guiding in Alaska where he conducted specialty trips and was the lodge’s chief instructor and guide. Happy to be back where he isn’t forced to chase grizzly bears and mosquito clouds away from his clients, you can help Michael achieve his current mission: Spending everyday on the water, preferably from his drift boat, and sharing his love, knowledge, and enthusiasm of fly fishing with both experienced and first-time fly fishermen/women.
As a client of Michael’s guided tours, you’ll return a technically improved fly fisher, a more knowledgeable angler, and have a memorable and guaranteed fun experience.
