FRIDAY FLIES WITH CHRIS REFAKIS

Welcome to the first installment in an ongoing series from Cutthroat Anglers;

‘Friday Flies.’  In this series we will highlight a selection of flies that our guides

and shop staff are utilizing on our home waters each week. Now that flows are

finally reaching normal summer levels, this week’s Friday Flies features an

assortment of terrific patterns to target trout in Colorado’s streams and rivers.

CHARLIE’S CHRONIC CADDIS CHARTREUSE OR OLIVE #14/16

Caddis Pupae designed by expert fly tier and guide Charlie Schmidt for emerging caddis pupae in freestone rivers

like the Colorado and Arkansas. The tungsten bead provides a quick decent in fast water and a CDC collar adds a

natural pulsating action.

TDJ GOLDEN #10/12

Also a Charlie Schmidt designed fly. A heavily weighted nymph with a segmented body closely imitates the look of

natural golden stoneflies. The gold bead aids in attraction and the CDC feathers mixed in with biot legs provide for

lifelike movement in the water.

BUBBLE BACK PMD #16/18

Works anywhere mayflies are present and can be killer during the pale morning dun hatch. The placement of the bead

and white CDC feathers imitates the gas bubble that floats emerging mayflies to the water surface to hatch.

CHUBBY CHERNOBYL VARIOUS COLORS #10/8

Great grasshopper pattern or surface attractor. Super buoyant with the ability to hold up heavy multi-fly nymph setups

in place of a strike indicator. The large poly wing and rubber legs can provide an irresistible silhouette to hungry fish.

TWO BIT HOOKER RED OR BROWN #18-14

Fast sinking nymph with two beads and a slender profile.  Durable epoxy coating on the body helps the fly withstand

numerous hookups and sharp teeth. A great imitation for various mayfly nymphs and emergers, it can be effectively

fished under a hopper or strike indicator.
