Fly Tying Classes 2024/2025
Want to dial in your fly tying skills? Whether you're a seasoned vet or a beginner, we promise you will find great value no matter which class you attend. Every class after the initial "Intro to Fly Tying" class will have options to learn basic or advanced skills.
We have 4 spots available for each class so everyone gets the attention they need.
To attend a class please email harlan@fishcolorado.com with the date of the class you are interested in and whether or not you have your own tying vice and tools.

Session 1: Intro to Tying -- December 17th 4-6pm
1. Basic skills workshop
- Tying in material on a hook
- Wrapping/Palmering Material
- Whip Finish/Half Hitch Knot
- Learning Basic Fly Tying Materials
- Hook Selection/Thread Selection/Tying Tool Basics
- FINAL EXAM: Tie a Wooly Bugger
Session 2: Tying Nymph Flies -- January 7th 4-6pm
1. Basic: Tie Zebra Midge and/or Frenchie
- Learn how to tie Zebra Midge or Frenchie
2. Advanced: Jig/Euro Nymphs
- Working with UV Resin
- Jig Hook and Bead Selection
- Material Selection
Session 3: Tying Dry Flies -- January 21st 4-6pm
1. Basic:
- Learn how to tie Elk Hair Caddis and/or Parachute Adams
2. Advanced:
- Creating Foam Bodies/Grasshopper Patterns
Session 4: Learn How to Tie Leech Patterns -- February 4th 4-6pm
1. Basic:
- Learn how to tie a Pine Squirrel Leech
2. Advanced:
- Learn how to tie a Balanced Leech
Session 5: Learn How to Tie Streamers -- Feb 18th 4-6pm
1. Basic:
- Creating streamer heads with dubbing and weighted eyes
2. Advanced:
- Creating deer hair heads using dubbing loops
- How to articulate streamers
Session 6: Open Workshop -- March 4th 4-6pm
