Blue River in Silverthorne

UPDATED: 04/18/2026

Guide Tip of the Week:

Flows have gone back to normal again... unfortunately… Size 22-24 midges in town are the ticket. Anglers new to this section should try streamers and dry flies to cover water and locate the deeper runs. Once a deeper runs is located, technical nymphing with small flies is generally the ticket. Up your fly size as you move north of Silverthorne and implement stoneflies into your rig. There are some big fish in the system right now so be ready for some big runs! Look for fish under deep drop offs near seams or light riffles.

The Blue River North of Silverthorne town limits contains some beautiful public water and breathtaking views. Unfortunately, it does not boast the highest trout population in some of its public sections. This does not mean there are no fish to be caught, but you may have to be patient and work a little harder to hook up. However, you do always have the shot at hooking the fish of a lifetime, a large trout that usually reside in private sections of the Blue sometimes venture into public waters. Happy hunting.
